etaconazole

Etaconazole is a synthetic triazole fungicide primarily used in agriculture, not medicine. It is a colorless crystalline solid supplied commercially as a wettable powder. The molecule is a chiral triazole derivative, with the 2S,4R-stereoisomer showing the highest fungicidal activity. Like other triazole fungicides, etaconazole inhibits the cytochrome P450 enzyme 14α-demethylase, disrupting ergosterol biosynthesis in fungal cell membranes and thus inhibiting fungal growth and survival. Etaconazole is not indicated for human or veterinary pharmaceutical use but is used in crop protection and fungicidal applications.
