Overview

A combination of two biologic agents used for patients with comorbid rheumatic diseases and severe asthma. Etanercept is a TNF inhibitor that binds to tumor necrosis factor, preventing it from binding to cell surface receptors and thereby reducing inflammation in rheumatic conditions. Mepolizumab is an IL-5 antagonist monoclonal antibody that blocks IL-5 from binding to its receptor on eosinophils, reducing eosinophilic inflammation in severe asthma.
