ETC-588 is an investigational drug composed of naturally occurring lipids, specifically a type of large unilamellar vesicle (LUV) made from phospholipids. It was developed as a potential acute treatment for ischemia and investigated for use in atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, and other vascular diseases. The drug is designed to mimic or enhance the function of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), facilitating cholesterol efflux from arterial plaques and potentially reducing plaque burden after acute coronary events. Originally developed by Esperion Therapeutics and later acquired by Pfizer, ETC-588 was studied as an intravenous therapy intended for short-term use following major coronary events[1][2][4].
