Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Etelcalcetide is a synthetic peptide and calcimimetic agent used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who are on hemodialysis. It acts as an allosteric agonist of the extracellular calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) on parathyroid chief cells, enhancing the receptor's activation by extracellular calcium and thereby reducing parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion. Etelcalcetide is administered intravenously at the end of dialysis sessions. The drug was approved under the brand name Parsabiv in 2017 for this indication[1][2][3][4][5][6].
