Overview

Etesevimab is a fully human recombinant monoclonal antibody that targets the receptor-binding domain of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. By binding with high affinity to this domain, etesevimab blocks the interaction between the virus and the ACE2 receptor on host cells, thereby neutralizing viral entry. It was developed for use in combination with bamlanivimab for treating mild to moderate COVID-19 in adults and pediatric patients at high risk of progressing to severe disease or hospitalization. Etesevimab was originally developed by Junshi Biosciences and later licensed by Eli Lilly[1][3][5]. The drug is administered intravenously and has been studied under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) but is not currently authorized for use due to reduced efficacy against certain SARS-CoV-2 variants[4][7].
