Overview

Ethadione is an anticonvulsant drug belonging to the oxazolidinedione class. It is a structural derivative of trimethadione and was historically used in the management of epilepsy, particularly for absence (petit mal) seizures. Ethadione acts by reducing neuronal excitability in the central nervous system, though its precise mechanism of action is not fully elucidated. Its use has largely been discontinued due to safety concerns and the availability of safer and more effective antiepileptic drugs.
