Overview

Ethanol + paclitaxel is a combination used in two contexts: (1) as a component of paclitaxel formulations where ethanol serves as a solvent for the poorly water-soluble paclitaxel, and (2) as a therapeutic approach called percutaneous ethanol-paclitaxel combined therapy (PEPCT) where ethanol functions both as an ablative agent and as a carrier for paclitaxel. In formulations, paclitaxel has high solubility in ethanol (up to 40 mg/mL) compared to water (<0.1 μg/mL). As a therapeutic combination, PEPCT shows synergistic effects between ablation and chemotherapy, particularly for liver cancer treatment.
