Ethanol extract of Camellia sinensis is a plant-derived preparation obtained by extracting the leaves of Camellia sinensis (commonly known as green tea) with ethanol. This extract contains a complex mixture of bioactive phytochemicals, including flavonoids and polyphenols. It has demonstrated multiple pharmacological activities in preclinical studies, notably antidiabetic effects through enhancement of insulin secretion from pancreatic β-cells via K ATP-dependent pathways, inhibition of dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPP-IV) enzyme activity, improvement in glucose uptake and insulin action in adipocytes, and increased active glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) levels. Additional reported activities include antioxidant properties and antibacterial effects against resistant bacteria such as MRSA and STEC[1][3][4]. The main mechanisms are attributed to its diverse phytoconstituents.
