Overview

Ethanolic extract of Paris polyphylla (EEPP) is a natural product extract derived from the rhizome of the traditional Chinese medicinal herb *Paris polyphylla*. It is characterized by a high content of steroidal saponins, specifically polyphyllins and pennogenin 3-O-beta-chacotrioside, which typically comprise over 80% of the extract. EEPP has been investigated in preclinical studies for its potent anticancer activities across various malignancies, including colorectal, prostate, liver, and breast cancers. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of autophagy, apoptosis, and cell cycle arrest. Research indicates that EEPP can act synergistically with standard chemotherapeutic agents like doxorubicin and 5-fluorouracil. Currently, it is primarily studied by academic institutions in Asia as an experimental therapeutic agent rather than a commercial drug product.
