Overview

Ethanolic extract of red okra pods (EEROP) is a plant-derived research compound obtained from the pods of red okra (*Abelmoschus esculentus* L. Moench) using ethanol as a solvent. Primarily investigated by researchers at Universitas Airlangga in Indonesia, this complex natural product mixture is being studied for its potential anti-cancer properties. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in various cancer models, including breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, modulation of oncogenes such as MYC, TYMS, and MDM2, and the induction of apoptosis and aberrant spindle segregation. As a crude extract, it contains a variety of phytochemicals that contribute to its multi-targeted biological activity.
