Overview

Etheno-NAD (1,N6-ethenoadenine dinucleotide, ε-NAD) is a fluorescent analog of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). It is primarily used as a research tool rather than as a therapeutic drug. Etheno-NAD is intensely fluorescent and serves as a substrate for various NAD-dependent enzymes in biochemical assays. Its fluorescence properties allow sensitive detection and quantification of enzyme activities such as ADP-ribosylation and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) activity in vitro. Etheno-modified nucleotides like etheno-NAD are not approved for clinical use but are valuable in experimental settings to study NAD metabolism, enzyme kinetics, and cellular processes involving NAD-utilizing enzymes[1][3][7].
