Overview
Ethinyl estradiol + drospirenone + levomefolate calcium is a fixed-dose oral contraceptive combination containing an estrogen (ethinyl estradiol), a progestin (drospirenone), and a form of folate (levomefolate calcium). It is primarily used to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation, altering cervical mucus to impede sperm penetration, and modifying the endometrial lining to reduce the likelihood of implantation. Drospirenone also exhibits antimineralocorticoid and antiandrogenic properties. The addition of levomefolate provides folic acid supplementation to reduce the risk of neural tube defects in pregnancies conceived during or shortly after use. This combination is also indicated for treating moderate acne vulgaris in women desiring contraception and for managing premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)[1][2][3][4][6].
