Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Acelyn is an oral formulation of ethinylestradiol, a synthetic estrogen derivative of estradiol. Developed and marketed by Ace Pharmaceuticals, Acelyn is approved in the Netherlands for growth inhibition in girls with constitutional tall stature to limit their final adult height. Ethinylestradiol acts as a potent agonist of the estrogen receptors (ER-alpha and ER-beta), mimicking the physiological effects of endogenous estrogens. By promoting the early closure of the epiphyseal growth plates in the long bones, it effectively restricts further linear growth in adolescent girls.
