Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ethinylestradiol + gestodene is a combined hormonal contraceptive transdermal patch developed by Bayer. It contains a low-dose combination of the estrogen ethinylestradiol and the progestin gestodene. The patch is designed for once-weekly application, providing continuous transdermal delivery of hormones to inhibit ovulation by suppressing the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis. It was developed as a transparent, low-dose alternative to existing contraceptive patches, with clinical studies demonstrating efficacy in pregnancy prevention and cycle control comparable to oral contraceptives.
