Overview
Ologyn is a combined oral contraceptive (COC) consisting of the synthetic estrogen **ethinylestradiol** and the second-generation progestin **levonorgestrel**. It is marketed in Switzerland by **Hygis** as a mature prescription product. The drug functions by suppressing the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, which inhibits the mid-cycle surge of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), thereby preventing ovulation. Additionally, it increases the viscosity of cervical mucus to impede sperm migration and alters the endometrial lining to discourage implantation. Ologyn is typically administered in a 21-day cycle followed by a 7-day hormone-free interval.
