Overview
The ethyl acetate fraction of purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas var. Ayamurasaki), also known as FEAUJU, is a bioactive plant extract rich in anthocyanins, flavonoids, and antioxidants. It is being investigated for its therapeutic potential in managing chronic asthma and preventing airway remodeling. The extract exerts its effects by modulating the immune response and reducing the expression of key inflammatory and fibrotic markers, including Interleukin-33 (IL-33), periostin, and Immunoglobulin E (IgE). Additionally, it inhibits the expression of Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-β), which is a master regulator of tissue remodeling and fibrosis in the lungs. Preclinical studies in rat models suggest that this fraction can improve lung tissue histopathology and serve as an alternative therapy for preventing the recurrence of chronic asthma symptoms.
