ethyladipoylazolamide

Ethyladipoylazolamide is a novel small molecule belonging to the bis(carbonyl)amidothiadiazole sulfonamide series, which are thiadiazole derivatives. It functions as a carbonic anhydrase (CA) inhibitor and was synthesized for structure-activity relationship studies aimed at developing topically active ocular hypotensive agents for conditions like glaucoma. It has demonstrated activity as an in vitro CA inhibitor. While subcutaneous administration of ethyladipoylazolamide induced a significant decrease in intraocular pressure (IOP) in normotensive New Zealand albino rabbits, topical application did not significantly alter IOP in the same animal model.
