etidocaine

Etidocaine is a long-acting amide-type local anesthetic primarily used for infiltration anesthesia and peripheral nerve blocks during surgical procedures, labor, and delivery. It is administered by injection and has a rapid onset with a longer duration of action compared to lidocaine. Etidocaine works by binding to the α subunit of voltage-gated sodium channels in neuronal membranes, thereby blocking the generation and conduction of nerve impulses. Its main disadvantage is an increased risk of intraoperative and postoperative bleeding due to vasodilatory effects, especially in dental surgery. Etidocaine is metabolized hepatically and excreted renally[1][2][3][5][6].
