etimicin

Etimicin is a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from sisomicin. It exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Escherichia coli*, and *Klebsiella pneumoniae*. Like other aminoglycosides, etimicin acts by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, leading to the inhibition of protein synthesis and causing bacterial cell death. It is notably characterized by a potentially improved safety profile, with lower ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity compared to older aminoglycosides like gentamicin. It is widely used in China for treating various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections.
