etodolac

Etodolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat mild to moderate pain and symptoms of arthritis, including osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, particularly showing preferential selectivity for COX-2 over COX-1, which leads to reduced synthesis of prostaglandins involved in inflammation, pain, and fever. Etodolac has analgesic and antipyretic properties but does not cure underlying disease; it only manages symptoms as long as therapy continues. The drug was patented in 1971 and approved for medical use in 1985. Developed by Wyeth.
