Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Etomidate and morphine combination is used for induction of anesthesia. Etomidate is a short-acting intravenous anesthetic that acts at the level of the reticular-activating system to produce anesthesia. It appears to depress CNS function via GABA. Morphine is a narcotic analgesic that acts on the central nervous system to relieve pain. When combined, studies have shown that this combination can lead to unsatisfactory results with common occurrences of hypertension or hypotension depending on the dose given.
