Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Etomidate fat emulsion is a small molecule sedative-hypnotic agent developed and manufactured by Jiangsu Enhua Pharmaceutical. Formulated as an oil-in-water (o/w) medium/long-chain fat emulsion, it is designed to minimize the injection pain and phlebitis commonly associated with traditional propylene glycol-based etomidate formulations by maintaining an osmotic concentration closer to the physiological range. The drug functions as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor in the central nervous system, enhancing inhibitory neurotransmission to induce and maintain anesthesia. It is widely utilized for anesthesia induction and long-term sedation in critically ill patients due to its favorable hemodynamic profile.
