Etoposide and paclitaxel are two chemotherapy agents with different mechanisms of action that are used in combination for treating various cancers. Etoposide is a podophyllotoxin derivative that inhibits DNA synthesis by forming a complex with topoisomerase II and DNA, inducing breaks in double-stranded DNA and preventing repair. Paclitaxel is a taxane that stabilizes microtubules, preventing their breakdown during cell division, which leads to cell death.
