Overview

Etoricoxib + tizanidine is a fixed-dose combination drug consisting of two active pharmaceutical ingredients: etoricoxib, a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor, and tizanidine, a centrally acting alpha2 adrenergic receptor agonist. Etoricoxib acts by selectively inhibiting COX-2, thereby reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in pain and inflammation. It is primarily indicated for conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis, and other painful inflammatory disorders[3][4]. Tizanidine works by stimulating alpha2 adrenergic receptors in the central nervous system to inhibit presynaptic motor neuron activity and reduce muscle spasticity[1][2][6]. The combination is being developed to treat acute low back pain associated with muscle spasm by providing both anti-inflammatory/analgesic effects from etoricoxib and muscle relaxant effects from tizanidine[4].
