Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ETR-56 is a palladium-based metal-organic coordination complex developed by the Discobac group (Universidad de Alcalá and IDISCAM). Chemically formulated as a hexafluorophosphate salt, `[(bis(5-amino-1,10-phenanthroline)Pd)][PF6]2`, ETR-56 is designed to target non-canonical G-quadruplex (G4) DNA structures. G4 DNA sequences are highly abundant in telomeres, oncogene promoter regions, and mitochondrial or bacterial genetic material. By binding and coordinating to G4 DNA, ETR-56 exhibits dual therapeutic potential, combining antiproliferative (antitumor) activity with moderate antimicrobial activity. In preclinical evaluations, ETR-56 demonstrated minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values in the range of 2 to 8 mg/L against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial isolates, making it a promising candidate for mitigating infectious processes in immunocompromised cancer patients.
