etsuhijika-jutsuto

Etsuhijika-jutsuto is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine, derived from the classical Chinese formula Yue-Bi-Jia-Zhu-Tang, primarily indicated for inflammatory conditions associated with edema and fluid retention. It is a multi-component herbal preparation consisting of six botanical and mineral ingredients: *Ephedra* herb, *Gypsum*, *Atractylodes* rhizome, *Jujube*, *Licorice*, and *Ginger*. In Japan, it is standardized as an extract and widely prescribed for the treatment of acute and chronic nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, arthritis, and exudative skin diseases such as eczema and dermatitis. The formula exerts its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and diuretic activities. Pharmacologically, it has been shown to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines like TNF-alpha and IL-6, while its ephedrine alkaloids activate adrenergic pathways to facilitate the removal of excess fluid and reduce tissue swelling.
