Overview

Etymemazine is a phenothiazine derivative classified as an antipsychotic, antihistamine, and anticholinergic agent. It is structurally related to cyamemazine and methotrimeprazine. Etymemazine acts primarily as a histamine H1 receptor antagonist, conferring sedative and neuroleptic properties. It has been used experimentally in the treatment of dementia and also has veterinary applications. Its mechanism of action involves antagonism at histamine H1 receptors, with additional likely activity at dopamine receptors (as typical for phenothiazines), contributing to its antipsychotic effects[2][4][7].
