Overview

Eucalyptus globulus pollen is a non-standardized allergenic extract derived from the pollen of the Eucalyptus globulus tree. It is manufactured by Greer Laboratories, Inc. and marketed under the brand name "Bluegum Eucalyptus Pollen". [12] First approved in the U.S. in 1965, this biologic product is indicated for both the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with immediate hypersensitivity allergies to eucalyptus pollen. [7] The product works by interacting with the immune system to either diagnose sensitivity through skin testing or to desensitize patients via immunotherapy. [6] Allergic reactions to eucalyptus pollen can manifest as asthma, hay fever (rhinoconjunctivitis), and contact urticaria. It is administered as a solution through intradermal, percutaneous, or subcutaneous routes.
