Eucalyptus tereticornis extract is a natural product derived from the leaves or bark of the Eucalyptus tereticornis tree, commonly known as the red gum tree. The extracts contain a variety of phytochemicals including tannins, alkaloids, saponins, glycosides, terpenoids (notably ursolic acid lactone), flavonoids, steroids, and phenols. These bioactive compounds contribute to its reported medicinal properties such as anti-inflammatory[5], antimicrobial[4], hypoglycemic/antidiabetic[3], hypolipidemic[3], anxiolytic[6], stimulant, anaesthetic and antiseptic effects[2]. Mechanistically, its anti-inflammatory activity is attributed to membrane stabilization and inhibition of protein denaturation; antimicrobial effects are due to broad-spectrum inhibition against pathogens; metabolic benefits are linked to increased glucose uptake and reduced inflammatory activity in vitro. The essential oil has also demonstrated strong larvicidal and mosquitocidal activities against Anopheles stephensi mosquitoes at high doses[1][7].
