Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Eucerin Original is a topical emollient and skin protectant cream developed by Beiersdorf. It is a water-in-oil emulsion primarily composed of petrolatum, mineral oil, and lanolin alcohol. The product functions by creating an occlusive barrier on the skin's surface, which significantly reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and helps to hydrate and soften the stratum corneum. It is widely used for the management of very dry, sensitive, or compromised skin conditions, including xerosis and eczema. In clinical trials, particularly in radiation oncology, Eucerin Original is often utilized as a standard moisturizing control for the prevention and management of acute radiation dermatitis, although it is frequently compared against active pharmacological agents like topical corticosteroids.
