Overview

Eucommia ulmoides leaf extract is a botanical preparation derived from the leaves of the Eucommia ulmoides tree (family Eucommiaceae), traditionally used in Chinese medicine. The primary active constituents include polyphenols and flavonoids such as chlorogenic acid, quercetin, and protocatechuic acid. These compounds are believed to exert beneficial effects on lipid metabolism by modulating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) and AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), contributing to reduced fat deposition and improved antioxidant status[4]. The extract has been studied for its potential roles in lowering blood pressure, supporting bone health by promoting osteoblastic calcium accumulation[8], reducing oxidative stress, improving metabolic parameters related to obesity and diabetes[1][4][5], and enhancing overall vitality. While animal studies support these effects, robust clinical trial data in humans are limited. It is generally considered safe when used appropriately but may cause mild side effects such as headache or dizziness in some individuals[5]. Commercially available forms include capsules, tablets, powders, teas, or as an ingredient in combination products primarily marketed for hypertension or general wellness[1].
