In TCM, it is used to tonify the Liver and Kidneys, strengthen sinews and bones, promote the smooth flow of Qi and Blood, calm Liver Yang rising, and alleviate pain in the lower back and knees. The main active ingredient—*Eucommia ulmoides*—has demonstrated potential antihypertensive effects in clinical studies through beta-adrenergic blocking activity. It is also traditionally used for conditions like hypertension, diabetes, inflammation, obesity, arthralgia (joint pain), lumbar region pain, knee pain due to deficiency syndromes in TCM theory[1][4][6][9]. There are no robust clinical trial data supporting its use for any specific indication by Western medical standards.
