Eulactol Heel Balm

Eulactol Heel Balm (marketed as Scholl Eulactol Heel Balm Gold) is a topical emollient and keratolytic cream containing 25% chemically synthesised urea. It is indicated for the treatment of xerosis (dry, rough, cracked skin) of the foot, including cracked heels. Urea acts as a humectant at lower concentrations and as a keratolytic agent at higher concentrations (such as the 25% formulation in Eulactol), where it disrupts hydrogen bonds in keratin proteins within the stratum corneum to promote desquamation and skin hydration. The product was evaluated in a completed Australian comparative clinical trial sponsored by the University of South Australia, which compared its efficacy, patient satisfaction, and cost-benefit profile against Walker's Sorbolene over a 4-week period.
