Overview

Eupatoriopicrin (EPD) is a natural germacranolide-type sesquiterpene lactone primarily isolated from the plant *Eupatorium cannabinum* (hemp-agrimony). It is recognized for its potent cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory properties. In oncological research, particularly concerning ovarian cancer, EPD has demonstrated significant anti-tumor activity and exhibits synergistic effects when combined with standard chemotherapeutic agents like cisplatin and paclitaxel. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of apoptosis through the activation of the mitochondrial pathway (caspase-3 and caspase-9), inhibition of the NF-κB signaling pathway, and the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Additionally, eupatoriopicrin has been shown to induce cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase.
