Euphorbia antiquorum latex is a botanical extract derived from the succulent plant *Euphorbia antiquorum*, commonly known as the ancient euphorbia or square spurge. In oncological research, the latex has demonstrated significant anti-tumor activity, particularly against human cervical adenocarcinoma (HeLa) cells. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of apoptosis through both the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway and the extrinsic death receptor pathway. Treatment with the latex leads to the activation of caspases-3, -8, and -9, the upregulation of pro-apoptotic proteins like Bax, Fas, and FasL, and the downregulation of the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2. Additionally, it triggers the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and modulates mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling by activating JNK and p38 while inhibiting the phosphorylation of ERK1/2.
