Euphrasia eye drops

Euphrasia eye drops are a botanical preparation derived from the *Euphrasia officinalis* plant, commonly known as Eyebright. Manufactured by Weleda, these drops are used in complementary medicine for their purported anti-inflammatory and astringent properties to treat eye irritation, redness, and discharge. The University of Bern investigated the formulation in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (NCT04122300) specifically for preterm neonates suffering from congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO). The study aimed to determine if early administration could resolve ocular discharge and reduce the necessity for topical antibiotics. While the primary outcome of treatment success did not reach statistical significance compared to placebo, the results suggested potential symptomatic benefits for secondary signs such as eye reddening and tearing.
