Eusolex UV-Pearls is a specialized sunscreen technology developed by Merck KGaA that utilizes sol-gel microencapsulation to trap organic UV filters within transparent silica glass spheres. This microencapsulation process prevents the active UV-absorbing chemicals, most commonly octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC), from coming into direct contact with the skin, thereby significantly reducing the potential for skin irritation, allergic reactions, and systemic absorption. The silica shells are chemically inert and photostable, allowing the encapsulated filters to absorb ultraviolet radiation effectively while maintaining a high safety profile and improving the sensory characteristics of topical formulations. It is primarily used as an ingredient in sunscreens and daily skincare products to provide protection against UV-induced damage, such as sunburn and skin cancer.
