EV-007156 is a humanized monoclonal antibody (IgG1 lambda) designed to target and inhibit High Mobility Group Box 1 (HMGB1). HMGB1 is a nuclear protein that, when released into the extracellular environment following cell injury or death, acts as a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine and damage-associated molecular pattern (DAMP). By binding to HMGB1, EV-007156 prevents its interaction with key receptors such as TLR4 and RAGE, thereby suppressing the inflammatory cascade and reducing tissue damage. Developed by the Japanese biotechnology company EVEC, Inc., the drug has been investigated for its potential therapeutic applications in treating sepsis, cerebral infarction (stroke), autoimmune disorders, and mitigating the adverse effects of chemotherapy. It is also being explored for its neuroprotective properties in neurodegenerative diseases.
