Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EV68-228-N is a human monoclonal IgG1 antibody developed as an intravenous therapeutic targeting the capsid of enterovirus D68 (EV-D68). It was derived from the neutralizing antibody EV68-228, which was isolated from patients recovering from EV-D68 infection. The antibody potently neutralizes multiple clinical strains of EV-D68 across several epidemic years and has demonstrated efficacy in laboratory models by halting progression of paralysis in animal models of acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), a rare and serious neurologic condition associated with EV-D68 infection. Mechanistically, it binds to conserved regions on the viral capsid—specifically around the five-fold axes—blocking critical steps required for viral entry and uncoating. The drug is being developed using a plant-based protein production platform and is currently in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety evaluation in healthy volunteers[1][2][3][4][5].
