EV71vac

EV71vac (Envacgen) is a formalin-inactivated, aluminum phosphate-adjuvanted whole-virus vaccine developed by Medigen Vaccine Biologics for the prevention of Enterovirus 71 (EV-A71) infections. EV-A71 is a primary causative agent of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD), which can lead to severe neurological complications such as encephalitis, acute flaccid myelitis, and potentially fatal outcomes in infants and young children. The vaccine is derived from the B4 subgenotype of EV71 and has demonstrated broad cross-neutralizing activity against multiple subgenotypes, including B1, B4, B5, C4A, and C5. In a Phase 3 clinical trial involving over 3,000 children in Taiwan and Vietnam, EV71vac showed 96.8% efficacy against EV71-associated diseases and has been approved for use in children aged 2 months to 6 years in Taiwan.
