EVA-001 is an autologous cell therapy product composed of expanded synovial mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) intended for the treatment of articular cartilage defects in the knee. Developed by the Japanese biotechnology company EVASTEM, the treatment process involves harvesting a small amount of synovial tissue from the patient, isolating the MSCs, and expanding them in a specialized culture facility. The expanded cells are then transplanted back into the patient's cartilage defect site. The therapeutic effect is mediated by the ability of synovial MSCs to differentiate into chondrocytes and their high proliferative capacity, which facilitates the regeneration of hyaline-like cartilage and improves joint function. This approach aims to restore the structural integrity of the joint surface and potentially prevent the progression of osteoarthritis.
