Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Evening primrose oil + misoprostol is an investigational combination therapy being studied by Ain Shams University for the management of second-trimester missed abortion. Evening primrose oil (EPO), derived from the *Oenothera biennis* plant, is rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), which serves as a precursor to prostaglandin E1 (PGE1). When administered vaginally, EPO is thought to promote cervical ripening and effacement. Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin E1 analog that induces uterine contractions and further aids in cervical softening. The combination is intended to shorten the induction-to-abortion interval in primiparous women, potentially reducing the time required for the complete expulsion of fetal and placental tissue.
