*Evernia prunastri*, commonly known as oakmoss, is a fruticose epiphytic lichen species widely distributed in the Northern Hemisphere. It is traditionally utilized in the perfume industry and as a spice in various cultures. Beyond its commercial uses, *Evernia prunastri* is extensively studied for its rich profile of bioactive secondary metabolites, including evernic acid, atranorin, usnic acid, and atraric acid. These compounds exhibit a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities, including antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties. Research has demonstrated its potential in sensitizing glioblastoma cells to temozolomide by modulating the Wnt signaling pathway and inhibiting enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase and tyrosinase, suggesting potential applications in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Additionally, the lichen is employed as a sensitive biomonitor for environmental pollutants, including heavy metals, pesticides, and microplastics.
