Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Evernimicin is an oligosaccharide antibiotic belonging to the orthosomycin family. It acts by binding exclusively to the large ribosomal subunit (50S) of bacteria, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and translation. Evernimicin demonstrates potent activity against a wide spectrum of gram-positive bacteria, including multidrug-resistant strains such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and has some activity against certain gram-negative bacteria. The drug was developed for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections but its clinical development was discontinued before approval[6][8].
