The Absorb everolimus-eluting bioresorbable scaffold is a drug-device combination consisting of a bioresorbable poly-L-lactide (PLLA) scaffold coated with everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor. It is designed to provide temporary mechanical support to treated arterial segments, particularly in the treatment of symptomatic tibial atherosclerotic lesions in patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI). Unlike permanent metallic stents, the scaffold gradually dissolves over approximately two years, potentially allowing for the restoration of natural vasomotor function and reducing long-term complications like late stent thrombosis. The everolimus coating serves to inhibit neointimal hyperplasia and reduce the risk of restenosis.
