Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EVM158 mRNA-LNP vaccine is a preclinical nucleoside-modified mRNA lipid nanoparticle (LNP) vaccine candidate designed to protect against mousepox, a lethal viral disease caused by the ectromelia virus (ECTV). Developed by researchers at Thomas Jefferson University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Acuitas Therapeutics, the vaccine encodes the ECTV gene EVM158, which is an interferon-gamma binding protein containing the immunodominant CD8+ T-cell epitope TSYKFESV. It is formulated using N1-methylpseudouridine-modified mRNA encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles. The vaccine works by inducing robust, protective memory CD8+ T-cell responses and protective immunity against lethal ECTV infection, serving as a model for the development of CD8+ T-cell-mediated vaccines against other poxviruses, such as variola virus and monkeypox.
