Overview

Evodileptin B is a natural anthranilate derivative isolated from the ethanol extract of the aerial parts of *Evodia lepta* (Spreng.) Merr., a traditional medicinal plant of the family Rutaceae. It is a small molecule that has been synthesized via the amidation of phloretic acid with methyl anthranilate. Preclinical research in *C. elegans* models of Parkinson's disease (PD) has demonstrated that evodileptin B possesses significant neuroprotective properties. It ameliorates dopaminergic neurodegeneration induced by 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+) and improves behavioral defects related to dopamine neurotransmission, such as locomotory and food-sensing abilities. Mechanistically, evodileptin B regulates the aggregation of alpha-synuclein by increasing proteasome activity, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic candidate for PD and other synucleinopathies.
