Overview

Evogrel (KRP-108) is an orally bioavailable, small molecule antagonist of the P2Y12 receptor, a G protein-coupled receptor essential for platelet aggregation. Originally discovered by Kyorin Pharmaceutical and currently being developed in China by Shanghai CureGene Pharmaceutical, evogrel acts as a direct-acting, reversible inhibitor of adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet activation. Unlike thienopyridines such as clopidogrel, evogrel does not require hepatic metabolic activation to exert its antiplatelet effects, potentially offering a more rapid onset of action and more consistent platelet inhibition. It is primarily being investigated for the treatment and prevention of thrombotic events in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and ischemic stroke.
