Overview

evolocumab + routine lipid management refers to a therapeutic regimen combining the PCSK9 inhibitor evolocumab (Repatha) with standard-of-care lipid-lowering treatments. This combination is the focus of Amgen's EVOLVE-MI clinical trial, which investigates the impact of early evolocumab administration in patients hospitalized for acute myocardial infarction (STEMI or NSTEMI). Evolocumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody that binds to PCSK9, preventing it from mediating the degradation of LDL receptors, thereby increasing the clearance of LDL cholesterol from the blood. Routine lipid management typically includes the administration of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins) and may include NPC1L1 inhibitors like ezetimibe. The regimen aims to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in the high-risk post-infarction period.
