Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EVOMELA is a Captisol-enabled, preservative-free formulation of the alkylating agent melphalan. Developed by CASI Pharmaceuticals in partnership with Acrotech Biopharma, it is administered intravenously for the treatment of patients with multiple myeloma. As a nitrogen mustard derivative, melphalan works by forming covalent bonds with DNA, leading to interstrand and intrastrand crosslinks that inhibit DNA replication and transcription. This mechanism is particularly effective against rapidly proliferating malignant cells. EVOMELA is specifically indicated as a high-dose conditioning treatment prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) and for the palliative treatment of multiple myeloma when oral therapy is not appropriate.
